Professional Experience

Bolton Primary School, WLWV school district - West Linn, OR
Student Teacher, 2011 to Present

Created and instructed an interdisciplinary kindergarten tree unit based on the S.T.E.M. fields of science, technology, engineering and mathematics. Utilized the school district’s Investigations curriculum to teach students counting-on strategies. Explicitly modeled visual step-by-step instructions for each lesson to support understanding. Promoted a strong sense of classroom community by encouraging positive relationship-skills with peers.

Designed and taught lessons in science, social studies, writing and art curricula in 5th grade classroom by implementing a “medical school,” in which students mastered content of four human body systems. Utilized the school district’s math program to teach students basic geometry principles. Helped prepare students for transition to middle school by promoting personal responsibility and independence.

Key Results:



  • During teaching of kindergarten work sample, taught 30 kindergartners how to take a true/false test, which identified an average growth of 13% in their knowledge of trees. 
  • During instruction of 5th grade human body systems unit, raised test scores by an average of 26% over pre-test scores, resulting in a class average of 86%. 
  • Successfully collaborated with colleagues to co-teach a variety of 5th grade units.

Collaborated with two first grade summer school teachers, rotating daily between classrooms to deliver reading and math lessons to a diverse range of learners. Implemented CAFÉ work station strategies, leading small groups in reading and writing instruction. Fostered reading appreciation by selecting relevant literature that complimented lessons appropriately. Led students on daily ecology excursions to the Center for Research in Environmental Sciences. Monitored playground activities to ensure safe and appropriate behavior.
